Voice Recorder - Record Audio Online Free
Record your voice in the browser with pause and resume, a live waveform, and playback. Download as WebM, MP3, or WAV. No uploads, no sign-up, 100% private.
Your Recording
WebM downloads instantly. MP3 and WAV are re-encoded in your browser and work in more apps.
Your audio stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded or sent anywhere.
How to record
Press Start Recording and allow microphone access when your browser asks. A timer starts, and a live waveform and level bar move as your voice comes through, so you can see it’s capturing.
Need a break mid-sentence? Press Pause, gather your thoughts, and press Resume to keep going in the same recording. The timer only counts while you’re actually recording, so pauses don’t pad the length. When you’re done, press Stop.
Your recording then appears with a player. Listen back, and if it’s good, download it. Not happy with it? Press New Recording to start over.
Pause and resume without starting over
Most quick recorders force you to nail it in one take. This one lets you pause partway through and resume into the same file, which matters when you’re thinking out loud, reading from notes, or getting interrupted. The paused state is clear: the waveform flattens and the status shows Paused, so you always know whether the mic is live or on hold.
Download as WebM, MP3, or WAV
When you save your recording, you choose the format:
- WebM is the browser’s native recording format. It downloads instantly with no processing, and it’s the smallest file.
- MP3 is re-encoded in your browser and plays in virtually every app, player, and device. Pick a bitrate: 128 kbps for spoken voice, 192 kbps as a balanced default, or 320 kbps for the highest quality.
- WAV is uncompressed and lossless, which is what audio editing software and podcast tools usually expect.
WebM is the fastest option, but if you’re sending the file to someone or importing it elsewhere, MP3 or WAV are the safer bets for compatibility.
Everything stays in your browser
Recording happens entirely on your device using your browser’s built-in audio tools. No audio is streamed to a server, uploaded, or stored anywhere online. Your recording lives only in the browser tab until you download it or close the page, which makes this safe for private notes, confidential memos, or anything you’d rather not hand to a cloud service.
Once you have your recording, you might want to edit it. The Audio Cutter trims it down to just the part you need and can add fades, while the Audio Converter changes an existing file between formats. If you just want to check your mic before recording, the Microphone Test confirms it’s working.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I record my voice online?
Press Start Recording, allow microphone access when your browser asks, and speak. A live waveform shows it's capturing. Press Stop when done, then play it back and download it. No app or account is needed.
Can I pause a recording and continue later?
Yes. Press Pause to hold the recording, then Resume to keep going in the same file. The timer only counts active recording time, so pauses don't add to the length. Note that pausing works within a session, not across page reloads.
What format does the recorder save in?
You choose when you download: WebM (the browser's native format, instant and small), MP3 (re-encoded in your browser, plays everywhere, with a choice of bitrate), or WAV (uncompressed and lossless for editing software).
Is my recording uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser. Your audio is never streamed, uploaded, or stored online. It stays in the browser tab until you download it or leave the page.
Why won't my microphone record?
The most common cause is a blocked permission. Look for a mic icon in your address bar and set it to Allow, then try again. Also make sure the right microphone is selected in the dropdown and that no other app is using it.
Can I choose which microphone to use?
Yes. Once you grant access, a dropdown lists every microphone connected to your device, so you can record from a headset or USB mic instead of the built-in one.
Is there a time limit on recordings?
There is no fixed time limit, but very long recordings use more memory since everything is held in your browser until you download it. For long sessions, save periodically.
